Branding is the most important step for any small business. Branding enables consumers to know you and remember you, which helps you build rapport. There are several factors that go into creating a strong and memorable brand. Here’s what you need to do to get noticed:

Determine Your Audience

Branding your company without knowing who your audience or clientele is impossible to. This will require some brainstorming and researching however, it is the key to your brand’s identity.  Once you have a clear idea, you are ready to start building your brand.

Create an Identity

The best way to begin building your brand is to associate it with memorable images, phrases and benefits that your company provides.  Having a logo design created could be your first step towards this goal. It should represent your company and stick out in a unique way to consumers.

Once you have a logo, you should get a branded website created. Another helpful branding tool is the use of a phrase, such as a slogan or mantra. This should be a few words that work well together to make a catchy phrase that sums up your company.

Be Connected and Clear

Recognize what type of connection your audience has with your brand. Put yourself in their shoes and think about what you’d like.

All of the content (digital, social, etc.) that your brand produces should resonate with your audience and provide positive feelings. Additionally, it is crucial to be clear with consumers. Keep all content and designs simple so your message will always be concise. Remember that you want to come out ahead of your competitors, so be sure your brand is heard and liked.

Maintain Consistency

Consistency is the spice of branding – this is what will keep your audience confident in your capabilities. There is nothing worse than a brand that is inconsistent and deemed untrustworthy. Think of your favorite brands and what qualities have kept you loyal to them. Every piece of content and design element from your website down to your business cards and brochures should match and endorse your company’s identity.

Dare to Be Different

Don’t hide in your competitors’ shadows.  Stand out and show your audience how you’re different. Don’t be afraid to be bold and direct to get your point across. You are confident in your company and what it has to offer, so portray that in your branding.

Branding can be a lengthy process and require some trial and error, but in the end, it is the greatest thing you can do for your company. Don’t be the “John Doe” of your industry this year. Be confident, be different, and be branded!

Hi Danielle,

Being different is very important, because, no matter what niche you fill, you will always have competition. Lack distinction and you lose a huge competitive advantage.
